Durham residents are diverse, but with this in common: We love this community. As the ultimate stakeholders, residents deserve to know what DCVB is doing to tell Durham’s story, to draw visitors, and after arrival, to ensure they circulate.
Naturally, as Durham’s marketing agency, DCVB is the community’s heart, soul, and energy as a destination, the defender of its brand and image, and guardian of its unique sense of place.
But in large part, marketing activities are difficult to witness. They are deployed to millions of homes, offices, and businesses well beyond Durham’s borders.
Without surrogate reports to remind all of us as residents, there is the risk visitors could be taken for granted, their needs unfulfilled, and Durham’s full potential from this economic development denied.
But it’s impossible for a report like this to do justice. People don’t read as much as they once did. Those who do increasingly scan materials. So by nature this report is brief and visual.
Please take a moment to thumb through these few pages and take in just a few highlights of the past year, then pass along that information to associates, friends, and family. For more detail, we hope you read the online version or the full blueprint.
We must draw your attention, though, to three DCVB achievements this past year:
• First DMO in North Carolina and one of the first two dozen in North America to achieve full
accreditation to new international standards and best practices for destination marketing.
• Deployment of Durham’s “overarching” brand and brand signature to help make all messenger
organizations more consistent and effective.
• Resident Satisfaction with DCVB - 7 out of 10 aware with 8 to 1 giving high marks.
On behalf of the DCVB management, staff, and its governing Authority, we respectfully submit
this summary report.
Sincerely,
