‘Durham Rising’ Celebrates Downtown Streetscape Spruce-Up

Celebration Marks the Completion of the $14.4 Million Project

A month following the big Bimbe’ Cultural Arts Festival in May and right in the midst of the American Dance Festival, a mini-festival, “Durham Rising,” will celebrate the new streetscape inside the loop section of Downtown on Saturday, June 23rd from 6-10pm.

The celebration, produced by Mary & Parrish Event Management, producers of Durham Arts Council’s CenterFest, and funded with public and private sector sponsorships garnered by Downtown Durham, Inc., marks the completion of the City of Durham’s comprehensive $14.4 million project that included a major overhaul of sub-street utility work as well as new infrastructure like paving, new light standards, new landscaping, and some visual elements. It also includes reversing some one-way streets back to two-way traffic.
