April 30 Luncheon to Honor Bull DurhamPopular Luncheon will Celebrate Bull Durham at Cameron Indoor Stadium
But Bull Durham was more than a movie. It captured the uniqueness of an entire community – Durham, NC. Now, on its 20th Anniversary, Durham will honor Bull Durham and Thom Mount at its Annual Tribute Luncheon on April 30 on the floor of storied Cameron Indoor Stadium, an equally key part of Durham’s unique sense of place.
To many, the movie may very well be the first time Durham residents realized that this very colorful community resonated with external audiences. In fact, the movie played a key role in the resurrection of the Durham Bulls into a national icon and Minor League Baseball as the second most popular draw of all pro sports.
It could be said then that the aftershocks of the movie and the revival of the Bulls drew the attention of Capital Broadcasting, fueled Durham’s resolve to keep the Bulls in Durham, leading to DBAP and CBC’s redevelopment of the American Tobacco District. And, it’s not a far fetch to credit the movie with the renaissance of Downtown Durham.
Please mark your calendars for this important event. By the end of August, sponsorships, tables, and individual seats will be available for the 2008 luncheon. Remember – reserve your ticket early. The 2007 luncheon sold out six weeks before the event.
