New Microbrewery Calls Durham Home

Durham’s New Brewery, Plus Recent National Restaurant Write-Ups

Durham has been known for its food scene and its nationally recognized restaurants and chefs for years, and now due to the popularity of many places like Bull McCabes and Tyler’s Restaurant & Taproom, the World Beer Festival and now, a new brewery, the community is becoming a great location for beer connoisseurs as well.

The North Carolina General Assembly passed legislation during the 2005 session that lifted the previous 6% alcohol beverage volume (ABV) cap to 15%, which has allowed more craft breweries and brewpubs to open in the Tar Heel State.

Triangle Brewing CompanyThat situation just got a little better, thanks to Andy Miller and Rick Tufts, who recently moved from Connecticut and have opened Triangle Brewing Company. The new microbrewery – a wholesale operation, not a brewpub – specializes in Belgian and American style ales, brewed without pasteurization.  For the time being, the company’s flagship brew Belgium Golden Ale is the brewery's only beer available for sale.  Tufts plans to introduce an Abbey Dubbel around the first of next year, followed by an Imperial Amber.

You'll find the Belgian Golden Ale on tap at Satisfaction in Brightleaf Square, and Tyler's Taproom will start pouring it next week.
