North Carolina Central University Art Museum

The NCCU Art Museum offers collections and contemporary exhibitions of 19th and 20th century African-American art. Located on the campus of the nation's first publicly-supported liberal arts college for African-Americans. Local artists and students also showcase their talents.

Directions:

I-85 North (arriving from Atlanta, Charlotte, Greensboro, etc.):

  •  
    • Take Exit #172 (Durham Freeway/Hwy 147 South/Downtown)
    • Follow Durham Frwy for approximately 5-6 miles
    • Take Exit #12 (Mangum St/Roxboro St Downtown)
    • Continue straight, crossing both Mangum St & Roxboro St
    • Move into far right lane, go to Fayetteville St, turn right
    • North Carolina Central University is less than 1 mile ahead on the left, at the intersection of Fayetteville St and Lawson St

I-85 South (arriving from NY, DC, VA, etc.):

  •  
    • Take Exit #177-A (Durham Downtown)
    • At end of exit ramp follow signs for Hwy 15-501 Business South (Mangum St)
    • Follow for approximately 2 miles, until Mangum St ends at a stop sign
    • Turn left onto Lakewood Ave, follow to 2nd traffic light
    • Turn right onto Fayetteville St
    • North Carolina Central University is less than 1 mile ahead on the left, at the intersection of Fayetteville St and Lawson St

I-40 East (arriving from Memphis, Asheville, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, etc):

  •  
    • I-40 East and I-85 North merge in Greensboro, NC
    • When highways divide near Hillsborough, NC, take I-85 North
    • Follow directions for I-85 North as listed above

I-40 West (arriving from Wilmington, Fayetteville, Raleigh, etc.):

  •  
    • Take exit #279-B, the Durham Fwy (Hwy 147 North)
    • Follow Durham Fwy for approximately 4-5 miles
    • Take exit #12-A, Fayetteville St, turn left
    • North Carolina Central University is less than 1 mile ahead on the left, at the intersection of Fayetteville St and Lawson St
