North Carolina Central University

Founded in 1910, North Carolina Central University is the nation's first publicly supported liberal arts college for African-Americans. Today this dynamic campus has a diverse student body of 8,600 enrolled in academic programs including law, biotechnology, library science, business, nursing, education, and the arts.

Nineteen of the university buildings are Georgian Revival style. These and many more modern buildings, including the award-winning facility for one of the two biotechnology institutes, grace a 145-acre, park-like campus. NCCU offers a Museum of Art and an active theater and music performance schedule. The university is also home to Division I athletics in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Many events are free and open to the public.
