This exhibit captures Henry David Thoreau's muse, Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts, in every season. This cycle of images is paired with texts by Bronson Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, & Henry David Thoreau himself describing the same landscape in the nineteenth century. This represents a selection of images from McCarty's larger project, Transcendental Concord, which documents the sites and landscapes that inspired the Transcendentalists literature and philosophy. Transcendental Concord is being developed as a book project to be released in 2017 to align with the bicentennial of Thoreau's birth.
