Location of the first integrated college basketball game in the South. Was played in secret behind locked gym doors in defiance of Jim Crow laws. NC College (now NCCU) defeated the Duke Medical School all-star team 88-44 on March 12, 1944. Then-NCC coach and offensive pioneer John B. McLendon is now in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Currently the gym serves as a Student Services Center.
