Duke University

Trinity College moved to Durham in 1892. In 1924, the Duke family endowed the college with $40 million and changed its name to Duke University. The three campuses of Duke University frame Downtown Durham.

The hub of the University is the Gothic-style West Campus with richly detailed stonework and landscaped grounds. West Campus includes Duke University Chapel, Duke University Medical Center, Cameron Indoor Stadium, Wallace Wade Stadium, Perkins Library (with more than 3.5 million books), and the Louise Jones Brown Gallery showing international artists.

Central Campus connects West to the East and has the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, student housing, and meeting facilities.

East Campus is the Georgian-style Old Trinity College Campus of the 1800s and each year hosts the internationally-acclaimed American Dance Festival. This campus is home to Duke's arts programs including Baldwin Auditorium (used for many community classical jazz and dance performances) and the Bivins Gallery (showing local and regional artists).
