On Set in Durham, NC

Watching movies that were shot in Durham (there have been quite a few) is always fun. Not only are many of these films well-done and enjoyable, but the places at which scenes were shot are often easily accessible to those who wish to visit them.
According to Sports Illustrated, the movie Bull Durham is the most popular sports movie of all time. Much of it was shot in Durham at the Historic Durham Athletic Park, the home field of the very real Durham Bulls. They are the most popular Triple-A Baseball team in the world and were the subject of the similarly named movie which is rounding the corner on its 25th anniversary. Aside from seeing the ball park itself, those interested can stroll past the mansion in which Susan Sarandon’s character, Annie, lived. It is an occupied private residence on Mangum Street in the Old North Durham neighborhood.
Duke University’s campus has played backdrop to many movie productions including The Program starring James Caan, The Handmaid’s Tale starring Faye Dunnaway and the late Natasha Richardson, and the television show Dawson’s Creek to name a few. Many campus locations have been immortalized on film.
In general, Durham is a pretty photogenic place. While here, see if any of the spots around town were locations for shoots in movies that were made here. It’s a fun way to get engaged in the place where great things happen.
