The poster art will be accompanied by Calabash at the Carrack, the first of the Calabash events led by Jamie B. | March 21, 2012 - August 31, 2012 "Fragments From Another Life" Photography Exhibit Rhonda Klevansky, a South African photographer, writer and documentary filmmaker, illustrates the plight of political asylum seekers. Klevansky’s portraits, taken between 2000 and 2002, feature refugees holding personal items from their home countries, such as vases, books of poetry and music boxes to traditional clothing. | April 19, 2012 - May 31, 2012 "Soul Souvenirs: Durham's Musical Memories from the 1960s and 1970s" Art Exhibit The official gallery exhibit for the Bull City Soul Revival, a locally-based humanities project seeking to recover Durham's rich heritage of soul, funk and R&B music. Yet "Soul Souvenirs" is not only about music. The exhibit will also touch on radio and television, record stores and night clubs, local high schools and churches, and even the civil rights and black power movements of the era. In short, this exhibit tells the story of Durham's African American community in the 1960s and 1970s. FREE admission. | May 18, 2012 - July 27, 2012 "Maji Moto: Dispatches from a Drought" Photography Exhibit Photographs and lyrical essays Courtney Fitzpatrick, who spent 17 months in the remote Amboseli basin of Kenya during 2009 and 2010. As Amboseli descended into, suffered from, and eventually emerged from the worst drought in living memory, her evocative writing and photographs became a personal record of a fragile ecosystem. The limited edition book produced from these records will be part of the exhibit. FREE admission.
