Joanne's collage and paper constructions focus on pollinators, specifically honeybees, and butterflies. "In this body of work, I make connections between the monarch's annual migration across arbitrary human borders and the migration of people coming to the US in search of safety and a better life. I aim to raise awareness of the interconnectedness of the environment and immigration and I encourage the viewer to find empathy in their heart for all who undertake a migration journey," states the artist. Joanne will be donating a portion of her proceeds to Pupusas for Education, a local organization providing last dollar scholarships for undocumented and DACAmented students pursuing higher education.
