Movie Loft drifts into Fall at Shadowbox Studio with a screening of Bette Gordon's 'Variety'. Out of 1983, the story (from a script by Kathy Acker) follows Christine (Sandy McLeod) as she sells tickets at a porno theater and develops her own dangerous obsession with a patron. A pseudo-noir tale, the film explores desire, gaze, empowerment, voyeurism and sexuality, in the seedy and lurid setting of uncleaned early 80s Times Square and New York City. With Will Patton and Nan Goldin and Luis Guzman and Mark Boone Jr and Cookie Mueller (and music by John Lurie and cinematography by Tom DiCillo)! To accompany the film they'll bust out crates of 80s NYC tunes, mostly of the danceable type. For, after all, this marks the 2nd anniversary of Movie Loft, so party a bit! Hot dogs on the grill, and records spinning, starting at 7. Movie rolls around 8ish. Free, donations appreciated. BYO or sample what's on-hand!
