A collaboration between local youth organization, Blackspace, photographer Phyllis B. Dooney and Historic Stagville. The one-night event takes place in Horton Grove, a historic site with the slave quarters of Stagville Plantation. The site is enlivened with projections of Dooney's contemporary portraits of descendants of Stagville's enslaved population from her project The Vertigo of Time. The evening presentation begins with talks from Stagville representative Vera Cecelski and Phyllis B. Dooney. Five of Blackspace's spoken word poets deliver original spoken word pieces-each based on a recorded interview of a photographed descendant that Dooney collected in the field.
