The purpose of the meeting is to present the concept plan for the stormwater restoration site. The plan incorporates input from residents, who provided feedback to project team during a design workshop held in September 2017. At this session, attendees will learn more about what is planned for the stormwater restoration and hear about the schedule for demolition of the former Duke Diet and Fitness Center building. City staff and members of the consultant design team will also be available to answer questions.
According to Sandra Wilbur, project manager with the Stormwater & GIS Services Division of the City's Public Works Department, this project site lies along a South Ellerbe Creek tributary that flows into Falls Lake, and this restoration will transform the space into an asset to the community and the environment. "In addition to increasing green space in a heavily developed area of Durham, the project will benefit Ellerbe Creek and South Ellerbe Creek by filtering pollutants, such as sediment and nutrients," said Wilbur.
