N.C. Central University will spend up to $2.8 million on renovations to Baynes Hall, one of the school’s high-rise dorms. The first phase will cost $500,000 and will cover the replacement of the building’s roof and electrical-service panels. Construction will begin December 10, 2015 and end by January 4, 2016. The second phase, costing $2.3 million, will target the dorm’s heating and cooling system, elevators and windows. It will start after May 10, 2016 and be done by fall-semester move-in on Aug. 11, 2016. Administrators are also planning a third-phase renovation for the summer of 2017.
