Demolition and construction has begun on the former Liggett Group cigarete factory, a $7.5 million facility owned by Maryland-based Wexford Science and Technology. The developer plans to convert the building into a research facility with a parking deck that will fit 600-800 vehicles. The developer plans to fill the building with tenants from Science and Technology companies. The proposed building plans call for more than 11,000 sq. ft. of ground floor retail and more than 150,000 sq. ft. of lab space. There would be an atrium in the center of the building to let light into the building. Its first tenants include Duke University, Nutanix and BioLab, are expected to begin moving in spring 2017.
