Fore! Well, actually ten, but let's not be picky. Durham is home to ten golf courses, each with a different style of play to suit championship golfers and weekend warriors alike:
Crossings Golf Club - A course that challenges golfers with undulating fairways, which are bordered by wetlands on many holes. The course is 6,527 yards and par 71.
Duke University Golf Club - Rated by Golfweek as a top-10 public course in North Carolina and ranked by Golf Digest as the 15th best in North Carolina.
Falls Village - A challenge for long hitters, this course includes 48 bunkers strategically placed along the 7,023 yard course.
Hillandale Golf Club - Nearly two million rounds of golf have been played on this par 71, 6,339-yard course. It is also home to a 2,000-square-foot golf shop, which has been rated in the top 100 nationally for the last 23 years by the PGA of America.
Lake Winds Golf Club - In Rougemont, north of Durham, this 6,365-yard, par 72 course is tucked away among forests and farmland.
Lakeshore Golf Course - Located just outside Research Triangle Park, water plays a factor on this 5,829-yard course, as do doglegs and blind shots.
Umstead Pines at Willowhaven - A classic course measuring 6,400 yards from the championship tees. The fairways are lined with towering Carolina pines, leading to well-defended, quick bent grass greens.
In addition to Durham's seven public and semiprivate courses, there are also three premier championship golf courses at private country clubs: Croasdaile Country Club, Hope Valley Country Club, and Treyburn Country Club, each of which may reciprocally honor membership at other clubs.
